Sure Fit Designs: Pants Kit - Part 3

Slowly, but surely, I'm getting to Fitting Nirvana. I must say, Glenda has been very helpful and encouraging through this process. I've taken it fairly carefully, not wanting to "do what I've always done". That clearly hasn't worked so well for me in the past, otherwise I'd have well fitted pants, wouldn't I?

I think I mentioned yesterday that I wanted to try taking the wedge out lower down the leg, to avoid messing with the crotch area. Well, Glenda confirmed my opinion this morning, so I've gone ahead and pinned in that change. As you can see in the photos below, this was obviously a good move.

The large dragline has gone from the front.

The back is looking much better than it did yesterday with the higher wedge. I suspect there are still some wrinkles in there, but I'm not sure which ones are caused by the pins and which ones will need pattern alteration.

From here, I will transfer this change to my blueprint, then cut another test pair. I'm fairly happy with the fit of these pair, so I'll use some reasonable fabric so they will (hopefully) be wearable in public when I'm done.

    1. It's not actually all that time consuming. The drafting was quick and easy and the sewing has been downright dirty. I've actually been spending WAY more time sewing a coat and another set of pyjamas for Erin. The pants have just come in between. It helps that I'm on holidays AND I don't have to wait for DH to take photos. ;-)

  3. Kelley, thanks for posting about your pant fitting journey. I have had numerous attempts and slowly getting a better fit, but far from perfect yet. I have had those same drag lines on the front too with the leg not being centered and the fabric collapsing on the side of the leg. It's amazing how a simple wedge alteration makes such a difference. Congratulations on your progress.

    1. I was amazed by how much difference that wedge adjustment made AND how simple it was. I guess I've been used to making all these really involved changes. It's nice for it to be easy once in a while.

I know the photos of me aren't the most flattering, but I figured they might help someone. ;-)

    1. LOL. I'm getting there! I've been working on sewing a couple of flowergirl dresses and my dress for the upcoming wedding. As soon as those are done, I'm back to pants. :-)
